How to Create The Perfect Outdoor Space

Spring is just around the corner, and if you made your 2020 resolution to be “spending more time outside,” spending time on your porch, patio, or backyard space is a great way to accomplish that goal. But may you’ve never invested much thought or time into making your outdoor space one of your favorite areas. Not to worry, just follow a few tips in the following article, and you’ll soon have an outdoor space perfect for hosting, relaxing, grilling, and just spending time.

Seating & Tables

Let’s start off with the basics: you’ll want to outfit your area with some outdoor seating and tables to make it a comfortable space. You have a ton of options in this category, but visiting a local patio store or Costco is a great place to find low-budget, high-quality items.

NWhat you exactly need will depend on your space, but you’ll want to invest in something with durable fabric to withstand the outdoor weather. This goes double if you are somewhere that’s prone to summer showers, like the east coast. Common materials for outdoor furniture include metal, wicker, wood, and plastic, whatever you choose is up to your style and preference. But whatever you do, make sure to get some cushions for your seating to make it extra comfortable. Additionally, remember to change out your cushions every season or two. Not only will you be more comfortable, but it will look like your outdoor area just got a makeover!

If you have a small space, try getting a round table so you can squeeze in more people in the same space. Additionally, you can get a counter with barstools. When the counter isn’t being used for a meal, you can use it as a beverage area, or a prep area for outdoor entertainment.

Try to buy all your furniture as a set to take advantage of price discounts and to have everything match. Bonus tip: Get a nice outdoor rug to go with your outdoor area to add an extra “homey” feel to your space.

Heat Lamps

Even if you live somewhere like Southern California where the weather is mild year-round, adding an outdoor heater is a great idea. After the sun goes down it gets noticeably colder, and adding the heater will make your guests feel comfortable for an additional few hours, allowing you to make the most of your space. Purchasing at least a couple should give you enough coverage (depending on your space) to make your guests feel more comfortable.

Lights

You’re doing to need to be able to see outside, and adding some string lights or lanterns is a great way to add a bit of style to your outdoor area. String lights are inexpensive and add a soft, subtle glow that make them perfect for an outdoor area after dark. Disposing of outdoor furniture can be a pain, but it doesn’t have to be. Pillows

Adding outdoor pillows is a great way to instantly make a space more comfortable and stylish. If you buy the pillows as a pair you’ll likely get a discount as well! Make sure you purchase outdoor-style pillows so they can resist deterioration from stains, liquids, mildew, etc.
